A THOUGHTFUL STARTING POINT
Get to know San Francisco
Choose one part of the city at a time: the waterfront, a park-focused day, or a neighborhood such as the Mission. Use transit between distant areas so you can spend your walking time where it counts.
Start with a good first day
Start with a neighborhood walk and a café stop. Choose a museum, a park, or a waterfront stretch for the afternoon. Keep your next stop nearby and let the evening stay flexible.
Leave room for day two
Build a morning around Golden Gate Park or another outdoor area suited to your interests. Add one neighborhood stop later in the day. Leave enough time for your airport or onward transit connection.
Getting around
Plan local trips with SFMTA information and use regional transit resources for airport connections. Check stop locations and accessibility, since hills can make a short walk demanding.
Pack layers even when the forecast looks mild. Waterfront wind and neighborhood microclimates can change the feel of a day.
Travel with care
Give residential streets and working spaces the same respect you would at home. Ask before taking someone’s photo, follow posted access rules, and carry out what you bring in.
